The hotels listed above are easily accessible and all offer paid parking facilities. From Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL), you can reach downtown by taxi (approximately $40–50, fixed fare), public transit (747 shuttle, approximately $11), or ride-sharing services. Whichever option you choose, you will easily reach the city centre.The Centre Mont-Royal is easily accessible on foot or by public transit. You may consult the website of Société de transport de Montréal to familiarise yourself with the public transport network. The Centre Mont-Royal is directly connected to McGill station. You can also explore the city's bike-sharing system, BIXI Montréal. CIRIEC-Canada encourages the use of active transportation and public transit.
To visit Canada and attend the Congress, you may need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Please note that it is each participant's responsibility to complete the necessary procedures with the relevant Canadian authorities. CIRIEC-Canada cannot intervene in these procedures under any circumstances, nor can it guarantee that a visa or eTA will be granted.We encourage you to begin the application process as soon as possible, as processing times can vary and may take up to several months.The Congress organizers will not provide any financial assistance.Travel Authorization (eTA)The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for foreign nationals from visa-exempt countries who are flying to or transiting through Canada.For more information, visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website.Visa applicationFor full details on visa applications, visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website.CIRIEC-Canada will be able to provide a letter of invitation upon request between May 20th and August 31st, 2026. Given the time required to obtain a visa, CIRIEC-Canada will no longer accept requests for letters of invitation after August 31st, 2026.How to get an invitation letter for visa application?To receive an invitation letter for your visa application, you must:have completed your conference registration;have paid the registration fees;send an email to congres2026@ciriec.ca with the required information (full name, title, company, home address, country). Once we have received the full payment for your registration, we will send you a copy of the letter, including the special event code required for your application. Please note that:Neither your registration nor the invitation letter can guarantee that you will obtain a visa.Your application will need to go through the same scrutiny as any application.The invitation letter will not affect the decision process if the application is incomplete or invalid. It is your responsibility to demonstrate that your presence at the Congress is directly relevant to your work or research area.Processing timesProcessing times for Special Events usually take between 30 to 60 days.Please submit your application for Visa as well as your request for biometrics as quickly as possible.As soon as you receive your application number, please email it back to us at congres2026@ciriec.ca. In October, Montréal offers a rich cultural and tourist programme, ideal for extending your stay after the Congress. Enjoy the autumn colours on a walk up Mount Royal or through Old Montréal, explore public markets, or discover world-class exhibitions.The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts hosts several major exhibitions, including Sunrises: The Art of the Confederations of the Rivers and Great Lakes, on display until 11 October 2026. The McCord Stewart Museum is another must-see. In October 2026, it presents On the Menu Montréal: A Restaurant History, exploring the city’s culinary and social evolution. At the MEM – Montréal Memories Centre, visitors can enjoy immersive exhibitions dedicated to Montréal’s history and identities. The exhibition Detours – Urban Encounters, running until 2027, offers unique life stories. Several temporary exhibitions are free of charge, making it an accessible cultural option.
